MY Dear Disco
Date: September 23, 2010 Location:
Outside their university's classroom walls, after the textbooks had been closed for the night, a small group of students would come together for late-night dance parties. In the ceremonial musk of their college house basement, the sounds of Miles Davis and Alice Coltrane faded into the beats of Daft Punk and Michael Jackson. As their friendships and passion for 4-on-the-floor house beats grew, those parties morphed into the dance band known today as My Dear Disco. http://www.myspace.com/mydeardisco |

Exit 179 wsg: jenni Snyder & Scott Shaull
Date: September 25, 2010 Location:
Exit 179 brings more to music than merely four musicians playing the same song together. They each come from distinctively different interests & styles that meld together into a very tightly choreographed band. Whether you follow the band regularly, or you stumble into one of their shows you will be entertained by their sensible but individually distinctive approach to the cover songs in their inventory, their uniquely polished & edgy original music, and the overall refreshing absence of any ego-driven agenda. Exit 179 earns their applause every time they take the stage. Jenni Snyder has more musical experience than her 26 years dictates. She was classically trained on the cello, but found a deep appreciation for the guitar’s ability to satisfy her desire to write and perform music early on and has never looked back. Her musical influences range from: Patty Griffin, Jewel, Colbie Caillat, and beyond. Never be surprised to maybe find her behind a piano or perhaps in the future even sporting a ukulele. Her wide-eyed interest in music is very obvious when you hear her sing. Her voice will not only entertain you, but will make you smile for just being in the room with her infectious musical style. Scott Shaull comes to this duo with a background that reads like a seasoned session musician. He has been playing in bands since the age of 15. First steeped in rock, then country, and also some serious blues to round out those various disciplines. While he does not channel Neil Young, David Bowie, or Pink Floyd if you listen close enough you can hear the spirit of their music running right below the surface. Not wanting to be only a guitar player Scott also plays bass, electric guitar, harmonica, and percussion. Most recently he has settled into playing solo gigs & accompanying various artists who can keep his talent challenged. Scott isn’t just a guitar player for Jenni Snyder; he is a skilled vocalist and showman, which is immediately apparent the minute he picks up his favorite Taylor guitar & flashes his friendly grin.Together they will take you away! |

The Macpodz
Date: September 30, 2010 Location:
One of the nation's great eccentric cities can fill its fanatical void with a young band called The Macpodz. A long time coming for sure, Ann Arbor finally has its first great jamband; a guitar-less five-piece comprised of brilliant musicians who via bass, trumpet, percussion/flute, keys, and drums, muster up some of the most energetic music on the scene today. With a little bit of everything in its musical grab bag, The Macpodz easily please music lovers, from fans of far out jazz to those rootsy jam band-style grooves. The inventor and namesake of its own brand of funky dance music, coined 'disco-bebop,' The Macpodz pay homage to kinky musical concoctions like the groovy, unstructured big band instrumental works of the late, great Frank Zappa with psychadelic tinges of sunglasses-and-afro era Miles Davis. The Macpodz impress as only an open-minded band can, taking the core of genuine American music and tossing in tasteful touches of world music grooves and lots and lots of swinging horn licks that rouse and comfort all at once.

The Cla-zels
Date: October 1, 2010 Location:
The Cla-Zels return to The Clazel Theater to support the triumphant release of their critically acclaimed album, I Own Hawaii. This tight little band out of Cincinnati focuses on irresistible, literate power pop tunes. Featuring the classic "boy/girl" approach ala Fleetwood Mac or, closer to home, the Hard Lessons, Joan Whittaker and Jason Erickson take turns on songwriting and lead vocals. They also mesh perfectly on harmonies. Everything from hard-driving rockers to quieter folk songs populates their disc and both Whittaker and Erickson are strong writers, giving I Own Hawaii a polished, fun vibe. Rod Lockwood - Toledo Blade I Own Hawaii is an incredibly eclectic album showcasing the band’s solidly melodic writing and adventurous musical approach, which shifts tones, moods and styles so often it’s sometimes hard to tell if it’s even the same band from one song to the next. The group features bassist Chris Barlow and drummer Brian”Gigs” Baverman. Mike Breen-Cincinnati CityBeat The Cla-Zels’ live show is a musical experience not to be missed.

Jay Farrar
Date: November 13, 2010 Location:
Some classic recordings are premeditated, but in certain rare instances, when an artist has something else entirely in mind, art barges through the studio door and takes over, bending the artist to its will. That's what happened to Son Volt/Uncle Tupelo auteur Jay Farrar and his friend, Varnaline founder Anders Parker, who met up at Farrar's St. Louis studio in the autumn of 2004 with the intention of recording a Son Volt album, with multi-instrumentalist Anders Parker sitting in. Although that project got postponed, another one willed its way into existence in the space of five days, and was thoughtfully captured on two-inch tape by the principals. "It turned into something neither of us anticipated," Parker readily acknowledges.
